Visual story telling is one of my many favorite parts of being an interior designer. I love helping my clients’ express themselves through patterns, textures, shapes, layers, colors and room layouts.

And after all those months and/or years that it takes to pull all the details together, it’s only natural that I, like most interior designers, want to have the completed space professionally photographed to share with my world.

Which brings me to the art of good interior photography and styling. To get the lens to tell the story that the designer is aiming to achieve, there is more time, furniture moving and manipulating to be done. I have always enjoyed the madness of doing my own styling and art direction at photo shoots and have decided to create a new division called JBT Styles, which helps other designers with the process.

I quite literally use the opportunity to take a room beyond the clients’ story and help create narratives that are creative and imaginative through the photographer’s lens.

The exhausted couple retreat to their room early in the night (note the clock), too tired still to put their shoes away and making sure to stay plenty hydrated.
